Loving cup

An interesting addition to any wedding ceremony is the use of a Loving Cup, or quaich. It’s used to share your first drink as a married couple. The tradition is believed to originate from Saxon times when it was customary for drinking parties to pass round a large cup to drink from in turn. The rite could be much older. Loving Cups have been used in Scotland for centuries and in 1589 King James VI of Scotland gave Anne of Denmark a quaich as a wedding gift.  Even today the Distillers’ Company, a Livery Company in the City of London, uses one around its table.Your ceremony can also be enhanced with accompanying food.

Of course, the choice of your first drink as a couple is entirely up to you!
